One of the firm’s distinguishing features is its commitment
to the District of Columbia, its communities, and its families. Through
turbulent times, the Smith Company has steadfastly worked to rebuild
and sustain the nation’s capital city. The company volunteers
considerable resources- money, people, and time –to improve
the quality of life in Washington, working in partnership with vendors,
subcontractors, local and national organizations and the government
of the District of Columbia.
In 1999, the company formed a non-profit organization, Building Bridges
Across the River, to develop a place for residents of Southeast Washington
to gather for recreation and community activities. The 110,000 square
foot, $22 million Town Hall Education Arts and Recreation Campus (THEARC)
is currently under construction on Mississippi Avenue at Oxon Run
